Gloucester Rugby

Overview
For a century and a half, in the heart of the City, a cathedral of Rugby has stood, where history is not written but exists within all of us. Together on and off the field, the crest worn with pride. It's the memories we make, the bonds we forge and the passion unrivalled. It's home to us all since 1873. The club was formed in 1873 after a meeting at the Spread Eagle Hotel with the announcement in the Gloucester Journal: "A football club (as rugby was then called) has been formed in this city – the season's operations begin at The Spa on the first Tuesday in next month." a team was then organised to play the college school, which was actually played on the current Kingsholm ground. The club left the Spa and acquired lands from the Castle Grim Estate for £4,000 in 1891, and have played home fixtures at this site ever since, in the area known as Kingsholm. In the 150 years since, the Cherry & Whites have established themselves as one of the biggest clubs in English rugby. Turning professional in 1997, Gloucester have competed in the top-tier of English domestic rugby ever-since. The Club has won five Anglo-Welsh Cups and two European Rugby Challenge Cups to date.
