Access guidance
- On showing your card with the 'Cannot Queue Icon" you will be brought to the front of the queue.
- Our access ramp is located to the right of our main entrance. Once inside, our entire building is one level. Accessible parking is located out the front of the building, however this is managed by Auckland Transport so relevant parking fees apply. Theatre configurations vary depending on the production, but we are always able to reserve places for wheelchairs and other specific requirements. Please visit our box office or call on 09 845 0295 to book wheelchair accessible tickets to theatre shows.
- Our building is not large and there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use. Our accessible parking is 7 meters away. We are located close to the Zoo and Motat bus stops on Great North Road and Meola Road.
- We have one accessible toilets, 3 female toilets, and 3 male toilets. If you present this icon to us we will ensure you are next to use the toilet in a discrete way.
- We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself. For any theatre related events, we will seat patrons in an area where assistance dogs are able to sit comfortably, and are closest to the exit should they need to leave unexpectedly.
- For general access to TAPAC, we do not require tickets. For theatre shows and community events, we do not control ticketing so are unable to provide free tickets. This decision lies with the independent promoter. TAPAC classes, workshops, and programmes would be dependent on overall studio capacity.
- Through the Training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can help you with the menu, assist you to a seat or guide you to the theatre / toilet if required.
- Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
- Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us great.
