Access guidance
- The Attraction is situated in the centre of the hilly town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Working within the confines of our converted Old Laundry building we have made our facilities as accessible as possible. The building has two entrances: Main entrance- from Crag Brow via a steeply sloping ramp with handrail Alternative entrance – from Rayrigg Road via steps (not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs). Families with wheelchairs or pushchairs coming from Rayrigg Road car park can avoid the steps by taking the second entrance to the building – a passageway to the left straight after the steps up to the Attraction. Please note this route is steep. Once inside the Attraction, all areas of the building (aside from a small section of the garden) are fully accessible for visitors. A lift gives access to the toilets and the Café.
- Public toilets are located on the lower floor adjacent to the Cafe. There is lift access to these from the main entrance. These toilets have a unisex accessible toilet, with a light, easy open door 900mm/35.5ins wide. There is 980mm/38.5ins transfer space to the left and front of the lower floor toilet, when facing the toilet. The toilet height is 400mm/15.7ins. There is a vertical rail and drop down horizontal rail to the left of the toilet and a horizontal rail to the right. The disabled toilet has an emergency pull cord. The toilets are well lit with fluorescent tube overhead lighting, these switch on automatically when entering the toilets. The flooring is non-slip laminate.
- Our policy is to offer a discount to carers in receipt of Carers Allowance. Please bring documentation as proof. Without this documentation, we are unable to offer a discount. If you have any queries, please call us ahead of your visit on 015394 88444.
