Access guidance
- The majority of our paths are paved, but there are a number of areas with slops where assistance may be required. In some places, the paths are uneven, such as the Savannah gravel paths. Some paths can be slippery when wet, such as the boardwalks. We have mobility scooters available for rent for up to three hours for visitors with limited mobility or injuries. A driver's licence or similar will be required as a bond. Contact reception on 07 838 6720 to book in advance.
- Dogs from recognised organisations (Assistance Dogs New Zealand/The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind) who are fully vaccinated and trained are welcome to accompany their owners to Hamilton Zoo. We ask that you please get in touch with us prior to your visit on 07 838 6720. Please note the native bird free-flight aviary is closed to service dogs. If any issues arise with other zoo animal residents, we may need to ask for the service dog to move on, or even depart zoo grounds.
- One caregiver will receive free entry when accompanying persons aged three years or older (children under three years are free) who require assistance. We ask that you bring suitable supporting documentation or identification, e.g. a Community Services Card, a High Use Health card, or a letter from a health practitioner. Please let our reception team know when you arrive, and they will process this request.
