Kylemore Abbey (Irish: Mainistir na Coille Móire) is a Benedictine Monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. The Abbey was founded for Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium in World War 1. Today, Kylemore Abbey, under The Kylemore Trust, continues its mission as a Benedictine monastery, holding Kylemore and its spiritual mission, natural and built heritage in trust for the Irish nation. Kylemore Abbey also operates as one of Ireland's leading visitor attractions.

Access guidance
- The Kylemore estate has partial Wheelchair Accessibility users and those with reduced mobility. The Abbey offers limited access with six of the nine open rooms accessible. The neo-Gothic Church is not accessible for wheelchair users. Our shuttle bus to the garden is suitable for wheelchair users and most of the paths in the garden are accessible however there are some steep inclines and steps which prevent full access to some areas of the garden. Our shop and Café are fully accessible.
- Dogs on a lead are welcome at Kylemore for those searching for dog friendly near me experiences. We ask you to be considerate of other visitors, especially at peak times, and to clean up any mess that might occur. We have doggy bags available at the Visitor Centre should you be without. Please note that dogs may not enter the buildings or travel on the shuttle bus.
- We offer a discounted rate to wheelchair users, disabled person and their Carers to reflect the limitations of the visit. Please enquire directly at our visitor centre. We have a limited number of mobility scooters for hire on site and wheelchairs can be borrowed to assist those with reduced ability.
