Overview
"Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi | Christchurch City Libraries are all about connecting people, inspiring discovery and enriching communities. We provide programmes, facilities and resources, so that you can access a world of ideas and imagination. You can use our spaces to study, create, have fun or meet with other people. Te Kete Wānanga o Whakaraupo | Lyttelton Library and Customer Services is a small community library who welcome the residents of Lyttelton as well as many visitors, both locals and tourists from cruise ships. We have a collection of books, magazines and AV materials and a Ngā Pounamu Maori collection that you are welcome to borrow. We also have an extensive nautical collection which is unique and is able to be borrowed. There are also free computers for all our customers to use. Our team is here to help you have a great library experience. At the Lyttelton Service Centre you are able to access the full range of council services and information. This includes paying your rates, registering your dog, topping up your Metro Card, making a community facilities booking, or obtaining information about your property. The Customer Services team are available Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 2pm. Note the customer service desk is not open during weekend"

Access Card notes
We can offer concession memberships to Hāpai Access Card Holders which include extended borrowing times and waiving of usual fees associated with our Audio-Visual collections: DVDs, CDS and Talking Book items and certain items for hold requests. Your support person has free access to any paid activity that you are attending.

Access guidance
- We always have staff available to help in the library and are always happy for you to approach us if you need assistance. There are various seats available in the library for you to use
- There is lift access to each level of the theatre.
- The foyer of the theatre is step free from street level. To access the stalls there are 28 stairs up from street level. To access the First Balcony there 46 steps from street level. To access the Second Balcony there 64 steps from street level.
- There is a toilet for men and one for women as well as disabled toilet with a baby changing table included.
- Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome. For comfort we recommend purchasing a seat on the end of a row. Alternatively we provide a dog sitting service for 2 dogs at a time. We ask that you make us aware if you're bringing a guide dog, at the time of making your booking.
- Entry is free, so your companion is warmly welcomed. Your support person enjoys complimentary access to any paid activity you attend
- We are happy to spend time with you to understand what you need and to introduce you to library buildings, services and information in a way that works for you. Software is installed on the public computers to make other software accessible to users who are sight impaired. These include magnifier, narrator which is a screen reader and non visual desktop access (NVDA)
- We have time to listen and talk with you in a way that works for you.
- We will ask if there is any way we can help you during your visit. We will follow your lead to make sure you have the best possible experience in our library.
