"At Portershed Specialty Cafe & Store, we have a passion for sharing our love of food and life with everyone we meet. Since we first opened our doors in July 2017 we've been devoted to offering the highest-quality kiwiana style vegan deliciousness and making it accessible to all. We are a family owned and operated Vegan cafe. We also offer a wide range of plant based groceries and some of the best coffee on the planet. We are a safe space where those with dairy or egg allergies, those who eat Halal, Vegans & Vegetarians alike can shop and dine with peace of mind. Thanks to our food-conscious consumers and amazing local vendors, with whom we've built such special relationships, Portershed has now built an online store and are able to serve you at your door. We look forward to being a part of and supporting the community for years to come. If you are looking to join our 'unique' Portershed family and have a passion for hospitality please pop in one morning to chat. Access guidance
- Who likes queuing, but for those who find this an actual problem then we are happy to come to you to take your order. Just make sure we know that you are there.
- The cafe has wheelchair access and a slight ramp leads to the outside area at the back. Staff will always be happy to assist you in navigating around the store, just give them a moment if we are flat tack.
- The Portershed is located on Lincoln Road, with parking on both sides, but no disabled parking place nearby - we will work on that. There is a bus stop about 50m away.
- The cafe has one single, unisex, disabled customer toilet. It may not be available at short notice due to use by another customer.
- We love dogs, and have water bowls available, and even free dog friendly treats. Registered assistance dogs are welcome inside the cafe. There is a grassy area at the back of the cafe which we are sure your dog would love.
- We appreciate that not everyone in your group is wanting to purchase a drink, or something to eat. We are good with that, we think they will crack when they see the cabinet and smell those wonderful aromas, but if they have the will power then that's all good with us.
- Our drinks and food menus are written, and so is the description of the items in the cabinet. However, your server is more than happy to assist in explaining what we can offer, and they know you may need just a bit of extra time to decide what you want. Remember, if it is easier we can come to you at the table.
- We are not in the position to offer sign language, but your server will be happy to spend the time needed with you so that you get what you want. Remember, if it is easier we can come to you at the table.
- When we see this barrier on your card we will ask how we can help make your time with us a good experience for you and your friends. There may be limits as to what we can do, but we will be listening and learning. Help us to help you and those others with hidden disabilities to feel at home. Together we are stronger.
