Access guidance
- Within our front of house space we have seats available on every level . Typically, the main doors will be opened 90 minutes prior to the show, with the doors to the auditorium being opened 30 minutes before the performance starts. If you need assistance, please contact a member of the team who can assist you.
- The Theatre Royal Multi -Storey Car Park is located behind the theatre (Old George Street PL1 2TR). This car park has 16 disabled spaces on level 1. This car park operates with a Ring-Go payment system (code 16893) or you can pay by card at a machine on the lower levels. The Civic Car Park is located adjacent to the theatre. It has 8 disabled spaces. Again .this car park operates with the Ring-Go payment system (code 16975) and is short stay car park for up to 3 hours. Payments can be made at the machine with a debit or credit card. Taxi/ drop off and pick up point is located to the front of the Theatre on Royal Parade and is a short distance from the main entrance to the Theatre Royal Plymouth.
- We have accessible toilets on all four floors. Each of these is self contained cubicle fitted with hand rails with emergency pull alarms . The access toilet on the entry level (next to the Box Office) also has changing facilities with a hoist and a bed if required.
- Assistance dogs are welcome in all our performance spaces . Please make the Theatre aware in advance of your visit if you are planning on bringing your assistance dog by emailing boxoffice@theatreroyal.com
- We offer Essential Companions for ticket holders requiring additional support due to disability related needs. This must be significant and in excess of what could be reasonably expected from family or friends. In addition to assisting the required needs , the Essential Companion will be expected to take responsibility in an emergency situation and/or an evacuation
- Audio Described performances are typically on a Saturday matinee, they are broadcast live as the performance is taking place and are accessed via a discreet headset which is linked to our inferred system in the auditorium. The describer will set the scene by describing set details, costumes and visual characteristics; as well as keeping you informed as to what is taking place on the stage as it happens. Headsets can be collected free of charge from a member of the team by the lift at the main entrance level. Program notes for audio described performances will be available prior to the performance and are available to download from our website, on the relevant show page
- Hearing enhancers – are free of charge and can be used in The Lyric and The Drum. The equipment amplifies what is being said on the stage, via an infrared system which can be picked up in specific areas of the auditoriums. This service uses a standard headsets. Headsets can be collected free of charge from a member of the Front of House team . Captioning – all dialogue from the performance is displayed on 2 screens located on either side of the stage. The captions include sound effects as well as the character's name, and are produced to synchronise with the actor's delivery, thus enabling patrons to follow the dialogue as it is spoken. Typically Captioned performances are on a Thursday evening British Sign Language Interpreted Performances – A BSL interpreter will stand on the stage and give a sign interpretation of the text sung or spoken by the actors and singers on the stage. The signer will usually stand on the right hand side of the stage when looking as an audience member to the stage. BSL performances are typically on a Friday evening performance.
