Nimbus Disability Releases First #SocialImpact Video, Highlighting Community-Driven 'Plot to Plate' Project

Nimbus Disability, the Derby based social enterprise behind the popular Access Card scheme, is proud to announce the release of its first #SocialImpact video, showcasing the transformative 'Plot to Plate' community project in Derby. The video highlights how 100% of Nimbus’s surplus profits, generated through its consultancy work and the Access Card, are used to fund vital projects supporting disabled people through its sister charity, Disability Direct.

The video features an introduction by Nimbus Managing Director Martin Austin MBE, who started working at Disability Direct 24 years ago and went on to create Nimbus and The Access Card.

He introduces the story of the 'Plot to Plate' project, which provides disabled people with the opportunity to learn about growing, harvesting, and cooking their own food. The initiative is a powerful example of the direct, positive impact of Nimbus's business model.

"I couldn’t be happier to release our first #SocialImpact video," said Martin Austin.

"This film details just one of the great projects at Disability Direct that the proceeds from our work contribute to. There are plenty more stories to tell as we continue to grow and formalise our Social Impact Strategy."

Louise Moss, CEO of Disability Direct, spoke to the profound effect of the partnership. "The funding from Nimbus is crucial for us to run projects like 'Plot to Plate'," she said. "This initiative not only teaches valuable skills but also builds a strong sense of community and confidence among our members. We're thrilled to be able to share their stories in this way."

A member of the 'Plot to Plate' project, whose name has been withheld for privacy, shared their experience in the video. "This project has changed my life," they said. "I never thought I'd enjoy gardening or cooking, but I've learned so much and made new friends. It's more than just a garden; it's a community that supports each other."

Nimbus and Disability Direct are continuing to structure a comprehensive Social Impact Strategy and reporting process, ensuring that as their work grows, their commitment to supporting disabled people remains at the heart of their mission.
