Nimbus Disability Wins Prestigious "Tech for Good" Award at 2025 Social Enterprise UK Awards

Nimbus Disability, a pioneering social enterprise founded and led by disabled people, has been announced as the winner of the highly coveted "Tech for Good" award at the 2025 UK Tech Awards

Nimbus are one of over 100,000 social enterprises in the UK – businesses that trade for a social or environmental purpose, and reinvest at least half their profits to further their vital mission.

With stiff competition from hundreds of entrants across 15 categories, this prestigious prize recognises the brightest stars in our brilliant sector, so it’s a real honour to win.

The Tech for Good award recognizes companies that have harnessed the power of technology to deliver beneficial social, cultural, or environmental outcomes, acknowledging non-financial contributions to society alongside commercial value.

Nimbus secured the win for its revolutionary "Access Card" scheme, a digital tool designed to improve the lives of disabled people at scale.

The Nimbus team and their award

Martin Austin MBE, Managing Director, Founder of Nimbus Disability and Creator of the Access Card said of the award;

“We are absolutely humbled by this recognition in what we’ve worked so hard to build. The platform we’ve developed over the years now allows us to process around 3,000 applications from disabled people per day and is used by 2,500 venues to enable over 5 Million visits, experiences and memories for disabled people and their families each and every year.

“This award means so much to us as it’s judged by our peers in the Social Enterprise Movement - a movement we could not be more proud to be even a small part of, so winning this award feels truly exceptional

“Thanks so much to all at SEUK for their hard work and commitment to raising awareness of so many fantastic people and initiatives”

Peter Holbrook CBE, chief executive of Social Enterprise UK, said:

“Every year brings its challenges for businesses, but 2025 saw a difficult economic trading environment alongside a sometimes unsettling national conversation on what it means to be British that dominated the political landscape.

“It was therefore truly heartening to celebrate businesses built on care and compassion that support the most vulnerable members of our communities, representing Britain at its best.

The spirit of togetherness demonstrated by all the nominated social enterprises was the foundation for a fantastic night of well-deserved celebration.”

The Access Card translates verified access requirements into a system of symbols recognized by venues, festivals, and ticketing providers across the UK and internationally. The technology allows users to communicate their access needs just once, in a consistent, dignified, and trusted format, enabling businesses to adapt their services accordingly.

The technology behind the card delivers immense cultural impact by fostering systemic inclusion and removing barriers at the earliest point of customer interaction.

Through integrations with major ticketing platforms, the Access Card enables accessible tickets to be booked independently, ending the need for intrusive phone calls or personal disclosures regarding disability.

Nimbus Disability’s innovative approach now enables over 5 million visits, experiences, and memories for disabled people and their families each and every year, empowering users to attend gigs, sports events, theatres, and theme parks with greater ease and equality.

The system is powered by the custom-built NOS platform, a purpose-designed database and API integration that connects disabled users with service providers in real time. This award highlights the power of technology developed with lived experience at its core, transforming not just individual lives but entire industries.

As a social enterprise, Nimbus’s model ensures all revenue is reinvested into disability-led innovation or donated to their linked charity, Disability Direct.
