NIMBUS DISABILITY AND REEDPOP ARE TRANSFORMING THE CON EXPERIENCE FOR DISABLED ATTENDEES

NIMBUS DISABILITY AND REEDPOP ARE TRANSFORMING THE CON EXPERIENCE FOR DISABLED ATTENDEES

A 15-year convention veteran shares how the partnership across MCM Comic Con’s three annual UK expos is removing the “mental load” for neurodiverse and disabled attendees.

For over a decade and a half, Louis Massey has been a fixture in the UK convention community. Diagnosed with ADHD, Louis finds the vibrant, hyper-focused world of comic cons to be the perfect space for self-expression. But for Louis and his wife, who uses a wheelchair, attending large-scale events has historically come with a heavy "mental load" with the exhausting pre-event ritual of making phone calls, sending emails, and repeatedly proving their disabilities just to secure venue access and a companion ticket.

Today, Nimbus Disability and global event producer ReedPop continue their commitment to provide a deeply personal, fan-first evolution to accessibility across MCM Comic Con’s three massive annual UK expos.

By integrating Nimbus’s award-winning, symbol-led software directly into the MCM ticketing system, the partnership has systematically dismantled these administrative barriers. Fans can use their universal Access Card or FREE MCM Digital Access Pass online to generate the essential companion ticket concession code, which can be used in the ticket purchase path. This negates additional interaction with customer service teams via email or phone.

Mark Briggs, Director of Partnerships at Nimbus Disability, said:
“Conventions are built on community, collaboration, and shared passion. When we listen to long-time fans like Louis, we realise that true accessibility isn't just about ramps and badges; it's about dignity and removing the stress of just getting through the door. By embedding our technology into all three annual MCM expos, we are proud to work alongside ReedPop to make sure every fan can focus entirely on the joy of cosplaying and connecting with their community.”

Real Improvements for Real Fans: What’s Changed?

The partnership directly addresses the lived experiences of the community, bringing tangible improvements to MCM Comic Con London (May and October) and MCM Comic Con Birmingham (August):

  • Instant Essential Companion Ticket Booking: The new system allows eligible fans to secure their essential companion tickets digitally during the standard checkout process, eliminating the traditional barrier of separate helpdesk queues.
  • Review of Accessible Facilities: Recognising that environments like comic cons are vital hubs for those with access requirements, around 15% of people need these. Nimbus have worked with MCM in constantly reviewing ticketing, entrance and autograph queues in advance, at and post-con.
  • Completely Free to Access: To guarantee that there is never a financial barrier to validating an access requirement, there is an MCM Digital Access Pass entirely FREE of charge that will last for 3 years, across all MCM cons.

The integrated ticketing and application systems are fully live and operational for all upcoming MCM Comic Con events. Access customers can find the application and linking forms online via the Nimbus Disability and official MCM Comic Con platforms.
