Peter Wyman and Rick Rodgers jointly receive the Nimbus Disability Award for Unsung Hero for their inspirational work in grassroots accessible sports.

The team behind the Access Card is celebrating the incredible achievements of grassroots sports champions following the Variety Disability Sports Awards 2026 at @sohoplace in London. The event, hosted by broadcaster and disability advocate Dr Oscar Duke, brought together inspiring athletes, community leaders, and organisations dedicated to making sports accessible for everyone.

As part of the evening, Nimbus Disability sponsored the Unsung Hero category, celebrating individuals who dedicate their time behind the scenes to open up opportunities for disabled participants. The prestigious award was jointly presented to Peter Wyman – recognised for his outstanding commitment across power hockey, power football, and wheelchair racing – and Rick Rodgers, founder of Cheer for Everyone, for his work creating inclusive cheerleading pathways.

Martin Austin MBE, Managing Director of Nimbus Disability and creator of the Access Card, presented the award on the night. Speaking about the vital role sport plays in everyday life, Martin said:

"Sport and physical activity should be open to absolutely everyone, regardless of the barriers they might face. The dedicated people working at the grassroots level are the ones who turn that vision into reality every single day. Seeing the passion of champions like Peter and Rick reminds us why accessible access to venues, stadiums, and community spaces matters so much. When we remove barriers, disabled people can participate, compete, and enjoy sport fully."

Whether attending a major arena event or supporting a local leisure centre, Access Card holders can enjoy seamless booking experiences and tailored support across thousands of sports venues nationwide.
