Access Card ends momentous year with 2 outstanding award nominations

Following the extraordinary achievement of our Managing Director, Martin Austin, receiving his MBE last month for his outstanding contribution to services to Accessibility in the Tourism & Entertainment Sectors, Nimbus Disability is proud to have been nominated for two more fantastic awards: TheTicketingBusiness Awards & Social Enterprise Award.

These award nominations also follow the great success Nimbus Disability had after winning the Outstanding Attitude Awards back in 2019 for their extraordinary work with The Ticket Factory.

Nimbus first began administering the Ticket Factory’s Access Register back in Autumn 2018. 3 years later, we have registered thousands of people’s access requirements with The Ticket Factory, making the ticket booking process more efficient and accessible.

“It has been so helpful getting tickets with my information being on the system. I have not had to repeatedly scan and send DWP or Doctors letters, etc.”

Martin Austin MBE has been shortlisted for the Executive Of The Year Award in TheTicketingBusiness Awards 2021. Since 2016, TheTicketingBusiness Awards have recognised “leadership, innovation & achievement in the application of ticketing across sports, performing arts, music, cinema, live entertainment and visitor attractions.”

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 2nd December in Manchester and will serve to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of all nominated businesses and individuals.

During the event, Martin will be part of a Q&A panel exploring the topic ‘Towards disability-inclusive, accessible solutions’.

Social Enterprise Awards

Nimbus Disability is a finalist in the ‘Tech for Good: Technology Social Enterprise’ category in the Social Enterprise Awards 2021, recognising it as one of the leading social enterprises in the country.

The UK Social Enterprise Awards run by Social Enterprise UK, the national membership body for social enterprises, recognise the nation’s most pioneering social enterprises.  Nimbus Disability will be joining other shortlisted organisations at the prestigious awards ceremony held at London’s iconic Guildhall on 8th December.

Both nominations serve to recognise the significant achievements of the Access Card scheme in making events & venues, including the ticket booking process, more accessible to disabled people.

the access card

The Access Card scheme was created to help disabled people communicate their access requirements in a more discreet way, reducing the need to go into private/sensitive conversations about their needs or present personal documentation to each individual event or venue. The scheme has proven to be an essential tool for many people as it has created many more barrier-free opportunities and adventures and helped open the door to more possibilities for disabled people; take this piece of feedback from an Access Card Holder, for example:

“The Access Card has been hugely beneficial in helping me take part in things I would have avoided these days such as concerts and festivals. Because of the Access Card I have been able to use the viewing platform / accessible toilets and have assistance from a carer without feeling like a total burden.”

The Access Card’s unique access directory now lists over twelve hundred unique providers, and details accessibility using our accessibility symbols.

Venues include many live shows and ticketed events from The O2 Arena & The London Palladium through to Glastonbury Festival and The Download Festival.

The reach of the directory is constantly growing and the team are working on some exciting new developments to showcase accessibility information

On being nominated for both awards, Martin Austin MBE, Managing Director of Nimbus Disability & Creator of The Access Card scheme said:

“The team is tremendously proud to have been nominated for these 2 fantastic awards alongside all the other great nominees.

“As we all know, the last eighteen-months have been a great challenge for us all and so these award ceremonies will not only celebrate the great achievements that all nominated businesses and individuals have made during that time, but will also celebrate the community of like-minded individuals and organisations who have continued to improve the accessibility of their services to help and support thousands of people across the UK.”

The Access Card Team looks forward to finding out the outcomes of the nominations at two special award ceremonies taking place this December.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook & Twitter for updates on these nominations.

As always, we would like to thank our fantastic Access Card Holders for their continued support across the Access Card’s journey and we look forward to bringing you more news and updates on our future progress and recruitment of new providers.
