At first glance Porkys is pretty much your standard run of the mill burger van but for us it’s something much more than that.

The van is run by Access Card holder Danny Healey who first applied for his card last year after finding out about through the Local Charity Disability Direct in Derby.

“Disability Direct have provided me with lots of support over the last couple of years and helped me get back my independence. I was attacked a few years ago which left me with a traumatic brain injury and in a coma for over a month. The brain injury I sustained means that I’ve had to relearn things like walking and talking.

That’s all behind me I’m focusing on all the opportunities I have now.

I’m back in business, I’m engaged to a fantastic woman and I’ve recently found out I’m going to be a dad for the first time. I hope it’s the first of ten kids!

Since getting his card Danny’s used it to get back into going to events, including V Festival where he volunteered for the Access Card

“After being involved with helping promote the card I was just impressed with what the team are trying to achieve beyond buying tickets. That’s why when I started back up with the van I knew I wanted give back to other Access Card Holders.”

danny proud to have his card and be a credable provider

“I wouldn’t have known about half of the things I’ve done in this last year and I want to encourage other disabled people to do the same. That’s why I think that if we can do our own little bit offering 10% off it might contribute to a person finding something new through their Card”

You can find Porkys on Pride Park in Derby in the car park of Nimbus Disability.
