“1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder.” (Young Minds). That is roughly 3-4 pupils per classroom.

A lot of changes have been made to our usual everyday routines & lifestyles and we have had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ as best as we can. Children have been learning what it’s like to work from home, whilst also trying to understand why they can’t see their friends, and these changes can have a large effect on a child’s Mental Health.
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week: a week solely dedicated to focusing on our children’s Mental Health. Whilst advice & support is always available 365 days a year, the purpose of this week is to further encourage our children to talk.
We have come up with a series of questions to help start a conversation with your children, and we will be posting them throughout the week. These questions aren’t direct. In fact, they are the opposite. For example “What would you like to be when you are older?” or “What is your favourite food?”. The purpose of asking these questions is to give children the time to talk about what makes them happy, what they enjoy doing, what their interests are, etc.
If you have any other questions you’d like to share, please let us know.
