British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships
Wimbledon Champions Gordon Reid, Alfie Hewett and Jordanne Whiley head to Nottingham in two weeks in search of their next triumph following their historic success at SW19.
Reid, Hewett and Whiley, who between them won the men’s singles, doubles and women’s doubles titles will be amongst a stellar line up of players competing at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships from 26-31 July at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
As well as world class tennis to watch, the event offers a whole range of exciting activities across the finals weekend with a free Come and Try day on Saturday 30th July and also a visit from the iconic Davis Cup trophy. All equipment will be provided on the Saturday with qualified coaches on hand to help you master your backhand or just hit a few balls if you are picking up a racket for the first time.
“British Open promises to be a fantastic event this year and I’m really looking forward to playing in Nottingham,”
said Reid, who became the first ever winner of a wheelchair tennis singles title at Wimbledon on the weekend.
“Following my amazing weekend at Wimbledon I’m looking forward to playing in Nottingham and finishing my preparation for the Paralympics.
“The crowd at Wimbledon were amazing and hopefully we can have that support in Nottingham. I hope we have inspired people to try tennis, whatever their age or ability, and I would encourage everyone to come down and try tennis themselves on the Saturday and cheer us on.”
The tournament, organised by the Tennis Foundation, is in its 27th year and will act as final preparation for a number of players heading to the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Kids and adults are encouraged to come along to the free come and try tennis day on the 30th July to try out the sport, meet some of the stars and have their photo taken with the iconic Davis Cup trophy as it stops off at Nottingham as part of its nationwide Trophy Tour.
We are also being supported by a local Wheelchair Fencing Club who wants to offer anyone a similar opportunity to try fencing.
