Margate Soul Festival is Kent’s signature soul music festival held in and around the picturesque Margate Harbour, with a large outdoor arena overlooking the sea at the rear of The Winter Gardens. It began in 2006 on the streets of Margate’s Old Town with a sound system and an intimate crowd of soulful music lovers and now in it’s 16th year it comfortably sits among one of Kent’s best summer events.
As the Margate renaissance continues, this year’s festival will offer a unique combination of ticketed large-scale outdoor live shows, free family-friendly street performances, DJ-led carnival street parties and the most eclectic mix of club nightlife.
Previous years acts include soul legends such as The Blackbyrds, formed by legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd and Keith Killgo responsible for musical gold hits such as; “Walking in Rhythm,” “Rock Creek Park,” and “Happy Music”. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

To make 2018 even better to the line-up is even bigger, across the weekend will be free activities taking place across the Old Town from midday Saturday & Sunday, including Spoken Word, Open Mic and Workshop corner located at Beet Bar. ‘Spoken @ Margate Soul Festival’, will feature some of the biggest names to headline Margate’s Soul Food & Street Sonnets poetry night.
The Isle of Thanet’s three resorts, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate are home to a plethora of pop up stalls, micro bars and vintage, collectable outlets, not to mention miles and miles of sandy beaches.
Dotted around Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the villages, you’ll find tempting boutiques, artists’ and jewellers’ studios and lots more. Margate Old Town is full to the brim with independent antique, vintage, junk and nostalgic retro shops which pride themselves on offering unusual and original goods. The addition of The Turner Gallery adds award-winning design to the backdrop of Margate Harbour and it’s breathtaking sunsets.
