MOTORPOINT ARENA SHEFFIELD INTRODUCES THE NATIONAL ACCESS CARD
The Motorpoint Arena Sheffield has introduced the national Access Card from Nimbus Disability.
Designed to easily and discreetly let businesses know the specific needs of disabled visitors, the Access Card translates a person’s disability / impairment into symbols which highlight the barriers they face and the reasonable adjustments they might need.
The individual requirements are assessed and entered into a secure database, based on actual needs rather than medical diagnosis and will allow staff at the Arena respond to and support a disabled customer’s needs without the need for intrusive details.
Rob O’Shea, the Arena’s general manager said:
“We are delighted to introduce The Access Card. Accepting the card will allow our staff to respond to disabled customers’ needs quickly and efficiently, making booking and attending shows at the arena an even better experience.”
The Access Card has been created by Nimbus, a Social Enterprise set up by disabled people to provide advice and guidance to organisations on how best to meet disabled people’s needs. The team has worked with a wide range of different companies each facing their own issues with regard to working with disabled people.
Martin Austin, Managing Director at Nimbus said:
“Having Sheffield Motorpoint arena join the CredAbility scheme is really significant for us as we widen the work we’re doing in supporting the nationals leading music and events venues. In Sheffield we are working closely with the City Council and also local user led group Disability Sheffield. The Quality Marks achieved by The Arena will give increased confidence and respect from local disabled people and the integration of the Access Card will make booking tickets simpler than it’s ever been for disabled people to get the right tickets quickly and easily.”
The card usually costs £15 every 3 years but thanks to funding from Sheffield City Council, for the first 1,000 city residents to sign up via Disability Sheffield their first 3 years are free, when the application is completed through Disability Sheffield.
