Access Card notes
Our friendly team are happy to help you in any part of your journey. A 20% discount also applies for the cardholder upon presentation of their Hāpai Access Card. This discount does not apply to combo tickets or Annual Passes. In line with providing a reasonable accommodation for disabled people, the Christchurch Tram gives a free ticket for an essential companion/carer where the card has the "+1" icon. It is expected that the essential companion/carer will remain supporting the cardholder throughout the experience and assist staff. From time-to-time the Christchurch Tram may provide benefits to cardholders and these will be notified on our webpage and through the Hāpai Access Card's social media channels
The Access Card is listed on this provider's website as accepted documentation for access facilities and tickets. The information in this listing is sourced from the provider's publicly available information.
*This is subject to change. Please check with the provider directly for more information about their policy.*
Access guidance
- For those who have issues with queueing, please present your card to us and we will ensure that you are the first to board. If you are in the queue for tickets, make yourself known to us and we will offer you a seat and serve you then
- Several of our Trams are able to accommodate manual wheelchairs on board using the wheelchair hoist located in Cathedral Junction (please note that motorised wheelchairs are too heavy for the hoist to lift). We recommend phoning ahead on the day on 03 366 7830 to check whether wheelchair accessible trams are operating and what time they will be departing from Cathedral Junction. You will be not be able to get on and off the tram and will have to stay on it for the full 50 minute route. There is accessible parking on Worcester Street. Please see the access tour for more details
- There is no parking available specifically for the Tram. There is one accessible park on Worcester Street, paid parking on the road and a large Wilsons carpark about 20m down the road. If you are coming during school holidays or peak hours we suggest being dropped off when possible. Unfortunately we don't have any onsite wheelchairs.
- Unfortunately there are no toilets at the junction. On the tram route there are public toilets at Cathedral Square, Riverside Market and Tūrunga Library
- We love dogs, and have water bowls available. Registered assistance dogs are welcome on the Tram
- An essential companion/carer will get a free ticket, but must remain with the cardholder to assist as required
- We will take the time to speak slowly and clearly to you, in order to help you understand any information you need
- Our staff are aware to look at you while we are speaking. We will slow down and speak clearer, enunciating and at a higher volume if we see it is required for you to hear or lip read. Our staff can offer you pen and paper to communicate with us if that is best for you. We will be patient so don't feel in a rush. We can print a Tram Commentary if requested so that you can read that on your journey
- On seeing this icon our staff will ask you what we can do to help and will follow your lead. We are more than happy to assist you, so please tell us anything that we need to be aware of to ensure you have the best possible experience on the Christchurch Tram
