Overview

NGY myplace which opened on 10 April 2012 is a state of the art centre for young people living in Nottingham providing a range of services and facilities from a fitness suite (GYM), dance studio and recording studio, to counselling and health services. NGY myplace, located on Castle Gate is one of four youth facilities across the East Midlands which has benefited from £20m funding as part of the national myplace Programme. Over £5m has been invested to transform the derelict Grade II listed building into a modern, welcoming and creative space designed by young people for young people. Work began in the summer of 2010 with the refurbishment and extension of the iconic building. Having undergone substantial restoration and renovation, NGY myplace now boasts a youth centre, fitness suite, dance and recording studios over 5 floors.

Access Card Notes

Open seven days a week, the centre offers youngsters aged 13-19 a wide range of activities from music and film production, to dance, fitness sessions, courses, health and well being support and somewhere just to meet friends, relax and talk to youth workers. The centre also brings together a number of private, voluntary and statutory bodies offering a one-stop-shop where young people can access support and advice including employment, training and health. NGY is a collaborative project that is being delivered by a number of partners including Nottingham City Council, Base 51 (Lead Partner), NHS Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire YMCA, Nottingham Forest in the Community. The City Council and its partners have worked closely with young people from the initial concept, choosing the building, to design and delivery to ensure that the project reflects their needs. Outburst is a safe space for young people aged 11-19 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or questioning, to be themselves, meet friends, get involved in activities such as the crafts, music making, watch movies, get some help but most of all just have fun! Outburst meets every Wednesday night at the NGY myplace on Castle Gate from 6pm until 8pm. It's free to come along (you just need to become a member of the NGY myplace).
